Space Chef launches October 28, Game Rant has learned. The wacky action RPG’s release date was locked down over five years following Space Chef‘s original announcement.
Developed by Swedish studio BlueGooGames, Space Chef raised the equivalent of over $53,000 from Kickstarter over a month-long period ending mid-November 2021. Beneath its cartoony visuals lies a layered action role-playing game with a sci-fi setting and culinary theme, tasking players with running their own space restaurant.
Space Chef Confirms October 28 Release Date in New Gameplay Trailer
After years of development, Space Chef has locked down a release date: October 28. The timing of its launch is spelled out by the ARPG’s latest trailer, which Game Rant can exclusively reveal. The minute-long video also offers another look at Space Chef‘s varied “hunt, cook, deliver” gameplay formula.
BlueGooGames’ upcoming title will require players to harvest ingredients from both flora and fauna on procedurally generated planets. Such resources will then be repurposed into dishes, of which over 140 will be available. Impressing customers with unusual delicacies will be the key to growing one’s company from a small food delivery business into a full-fledged space restaurant. Space Chef was designed with replayability in mind, ensuring that no two runs are ever the same—or even too similar.
In a 2021 interview with Game Rant, BlueGooGames founders Niclas Marie and Tobias Tranell said that each environment in Space Chef was designed like a puzzle, with players first needing to figure out how the local fauna can be tamed, defeated, or both. With over 180 creatures available at launch, getting familiar with all of the game’s species could take quite a bit of time. This variety also extends to Space Chef‘s cooking component, as the culinary ARPG offers everything from meat dishes to vegan and vegetarian options. Players will also get to set their opening times and micromanage other aspects of their business.
Space Chef Coming to Both PC and Consoles
The October 28 release date applies to all versions of Space Chef, which will be available day-one on the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, and PC. No price tag has yet been confirmed for the upcoming title. PC users can currently try a vertical slice of the game by downloading the Space Chef demo from Steam, where the upcoming ARPG can also be wishlisted. The game is published by Kwalee, a British distributor specializing in indie releases. Space Chef will mark Kwalee’s fourth release of 2025, following action survivorslike Hordes of Hunger, city builder Town to City, and classic GTA-style cop game The Precinct.
